Hydration & Fueling for Performance: Falkirk Workshop

From sodium to carb timing, a workshop fuelled by curiosity and sharp questions.

Hydration & Fueling for Performance: Falkirk Workshop

Last week, we had the pleasure of hosting our first hydration and fuelling workshop in Falkirk and it turned into an incredibly engaging session. Athletes from Hyrox, functional fitness and those simply curious about improving their general wellness joined us for a day focused on understanding the physiology behind performance, how to fuel smarter, and how to avoid the common hydration mistakes that cost people speed, power and resilience.

Led by our Co-Founder and Chief Scientific Officer, Dr Louise Blair, joined by Hyrox Mens Doubles Pro U30 World Champion Liam McCroary and the incredible CrossFit athleteJodie Ferguson, the session blended science with real-world experience. We broke down sweat losses, sodium needs, carb intake across different training intensities, signs of under-fuelling, and how to adapt strategies for heat, indoor environments and race-day stress. We also explored why so many athletes struggle to get this right, and how small, consistent changes can make a measurable difference.

We covered everything from “How much of a salty sweater am I?” to “Do I need electrolytes on top of my normal diet?” and even expanded into questions around creatine and bicarbonate supplementation. The level of curiosity in the room made the evening incredibly dynamic.

It was clear that athletes are hungry (pun intended) for clarity, personalisation and practical tools, not generic advice. And that’s exactly why we run workshops like this. When you understand the underlying biology, you make better decisions. Better decisions lead to better training. And better training leads to better race-day outcomes.

We also shared a look at how Performr’s continuous biomarker insights, hydration, glucose, lactate and more, will transform how athletes manage fuelling and recovery. The response was overwhelmingly positive, with many people excited about how real-time data can make these strategies even more personalised and actionable.

A massive thank you to everyone who came along, asked questions, took notes and stayed behind to chat through specific scenarios. The Falkirk community was outstanding, and we’re already planning the next session.

If you’d like to join a future workshop or host one at your gym or club, keep an eye on our socials or drop us a message, we’d love to bring this to your community.
