Exploring Ramadan & Elite Performance

In partnership with LJMU and Nujum Sports, Performr is helping advance inclusive research on fasting, health, and performance.

Exploring Ramadan & Elite Performance

At Performr, we believe performance should be personal, shaped by who you are, what you believe in, and how your body responds. That’s why we’re proud to announce our partnership with Nujum Sports, the leading organisation championing Muslim inclusion across sport. Together, we’re exploring how technology can help athletes of all backgrounds train, recover, and perform at their best, even during periods of fasting such as Ramadan.

This collaboration builds on our joint work with Liverpool John Moores University (LJMU) and its Research Institute for Sport and Exercise Sciences (RISES), where a new funded PhD project is ongoing to study the impact of Ramadan fasting on elite athletic performance. Using Performr’s next-generation wearable platform, which continuously monitors key biomarkers, the project will generate practical insights to guide athletes and coaches through fasting and recovery with greater precision.

Ramadan is a time of immense discipline, reflection, and resilience qualities that resonate deeply with sport. But fasting also brings unique physiological challenges, from shifts in energy metabolism and hydration to changes in cognitive function and recovery. By combining real-time biomarker data with athlete experiences, we aim to better understand these responses and help build science-backed strategies for safe, effective training during fasting periods.

For Performr, this partnership reflects our broader mission: to make advanced biosensing accessible and meaningful for everyone; from elite competitors to everyday individuals seeking balance, wellbeing, and self-understanding. Health and performance are personal journeys, and inclusivity must be built into how we innovate.

As this research unfolds, we look forward to sharing findings and stories that highlight how science, sport, and faith can align to redefine what peak performance really means.
